Core/RTI

Wowzers is core math curriculum for 3rd - 5th grade where students use computers, tablet computers, interactive whiteboards, and hybrid learning activites. Wowzers uses story-driven electronic content to engage students in learning explorations individualized for each student using proprietary learning algorithms. These robust data-driven tools within Wowzers also can be used to diagnose areas of weakness and prescribe customized responses to intervention for each student.

Standards Based/Data Driven

Wowzers is built around the Common Core Standards and aligned to state standardized tests. Wowzers dynamically leverages data to inform instruction in real time while providing powerful analytics to teachers and administrators - all without having to grade a single test. That means teachers spend less time re-creating content and correcting work, and more time analyzing performance and providing individualized instruction.

Easy to Use

Wowzers content is online, so there is nothing to install or purchase. All services are delivered through ‘the cloud’ - so there is no technical expertise required. Any computer or tablet or interactive whiteboard connected to the Internet can use Wowzers...both at school and at home. And Wowzers contains hybrid learning activities and leveled homework, so you can engage your class in group or individual activities that don’t require computers.

Professional Development

Teachers are provided robust support with ongoing, interactive Professional Development. Teachers complete initial online training on how to use Wowzers. Wowzers also includes embedded PD, so teachers can see real examples of best practices for each lesson right before they deliver it. Teachers are prompted to complete certain online PD modules as they advance through the curriculum.

And More...

Wowzers takes into account the “whole child,” with a program that address the physical, emotional, and social developments of the child.

The Wowzers Process

Wowzers is aligned with the National Common Core Standards of mathematics and provides a unique approach to curriculum instruction. Instruction follows a standard structure, which includes: a warm up, lesson, practice, game, quest, and virtual worksheet (Quizzard’s Challenge). For each day and week, Wowzers also provides non-computer, supplemental activities including writing in math, blended learning activities, higher order thinking questions, and homework. Below is an overview of each of the learning items that comprise the daily curriculum.

Movement Activity

Movement Activity

At the beginning of each day, students have the opportunity to participate in a physical routine that energizes students, preparing them for the day’s lesson.

Lesson

Lesson

The Lesson provides the bulk of the instruction of new concepts. The Lessons are interactive, and allow the students to engage in a reciprocal learning experience instead of just reading or listening to instruction. Students are regularly prompted to interact with the online lesson in order to ensure their full, undivided attention and compulsory engagement.

Practice

Practice

The Practice portion of the day provides students the opportunity to run-through what was just learned in the lesson. The Practice most often is presented in the same set up in which the lesson was taught, providing consistency and encouraging comprehension.

Game

Game

Students must rely on their understanding of the concept to successfully complete the Game. The Game relates to or takes place in the Wowzers virtual world and provides students the opportunity to earn coins that can be later used to purchase virtual items for their avatar or to decorate their BuzzPod.

Quest

Quest

During the Quest, students use their avatars to apply the skills and concepts they have learned to authentic situations within the virtual world. Students must be able to apply and illustrate the learned concept in various ways in order to accomplish the task at hand.

Quiz

Virtual Worksheets

The Virtual Worksheets, also known as Quizzard’s Challenges, are a concrete assessment of students’ understanding of concepts learned. Worksheets are available in three different levels of difficulty and can be discreetly assigned to students based on their abilities.

Formative Assessments

Wowzers creates an individualized instructional plan for each student using an embedded formative assessment. Three times a year, students complete this evaluation to assess their strengths and weaknesses in each of a series of essential learning standards.

Hybrid Learning

Participating in Wowzers curriculum does not end at the computer. For each week of instruction Wowzers provides a variety of hybrid learning activities that are designed to enhance the students’ virtual learning experience through non-computer, classroom-based activities.

Homework

With Wowzers, the learning does not have to stop once the student leaves the classroom. Daily, differentiated homework sheets are available in printable PDF format for student use. Each day, homework sheets are available in three differentiated levels: A, B, and C.
